Quickie Updates

Construction marches on as we enter the final stretch of brewery side renovations! Here's the status (with some very precise percentages to mark completion):

  • Steam: 65% (boiler install is in progress - should be done early next week)
  • Walls: 70% (framing is up, sheetrock and drywall goes up this week)
  • Ingredients: 72% (orders for malt, hops, and yeast are all lined up - we just have to pull the trigger and apologize to our credit card)
  • Glycol: 72.3% (piping is in the works, chiller is awaiting its move to the roof)
  • Brew Tanks: 80% (tanks and brewhouse are upright - we're waiting for water + gas to clean and passivate)
  • Grain Handling: 81% (working on hanging motors and assembling augers, mill and walls are in place)
  • Cold Room: 82% (still trying to figure out how to get the roof on but the walls are up and somewhat stable)
  • Water Piping: 90% (waiting on the meter, final hook-ups, and inspection)
  • Gas Piping: 90% (also waiting on the meter, final hook-ups, and inspection)
  • Electric: 95% (waiting on the final panel wiring)
  • Fire Suppression: 100% (gotta love sprinklers!)
  • Floor: 100% (poured, sealed, and looking lovely)

So what does this mean? Mathematically, we are getting close (exactly 83.11% of the way there...). And in reality? We really are close. Walking into the building actually feels like walking into a brewery (that's a shout out to you oh great and shiny tanks), and even our contractor has admitted that things are looking good. Our ever optimistic timeline says that we'll be firing up the system in mid-July. Cross those fingers and toes and say little brewing prayers because, damn if I've said this before, we are actually almost there.

Cheers!

Putting together refrigeration panels is like assembling Ikea furniture. Despite the handy diagram and shockingly specific tools, it took us about 20 hours too long to figure out. But it's done.

Throwing up drywall on the mill room like madmen. I barely had time to capture a picture before they were finished.

Here we see that Tyler likes to hang out in weird places. Like on top of the mash tun.

The glorious maze of pipes criss-crossing the ceiling - we've got water, gas, glycol, electric, and sprinklers up there currently.
